Requesting HHF Support for a Housing Project
Housing Hawai‘i's Future supports more housing in every community in Hawaiʻi. However, we are also extremely selective about individual project support. Our mission aims to address systemic issues — so while individual projects are needed to build our communities, our support goes to precedent-setting projects our team has studied and vetted. This lens means most submissions may not materialize in public support, even though they may do great things for our communities.
What we look for
Housing substance. Unit count, how deeply affordable the units are, how long they stay that way, and a commitment that is legally recorded and enforceable.
Deliverability. Where in the development pipeline the project sits (site control, financing, infrastructure), and developer track record.
Community standing. Real engagement with the surrounding community, and a clear account of any opposition or cultural and resource issues.
Fit with our work. Projects that set a precedent worth repeating and are consistent with positions HHF has taken.
Before you submit
We need at least 5 business days between a complete submission and your deadline. Requests with less time can be considered.
A submission is complete when every field is answered. Incomplete submissions make it difficult for us to evaluate.
Be specific. Give unit counts, income levels, affordability terms, and where commitments are recorded. "Affordable" without numbers makes it difficult to evaluate.
Submitting doesn't commit HHF to any position. Most requests end in a conversation or a statement of housing need. Qualified support or a full endorsement comes only after a full review.
