SMS Privacy Policy

Housing Hawai'i's Future Last updated: Aug 2026

1. Scope

This policy explains how Housing Hawai'i's Future ("HHF", "we", "us") collects, uses, and protects information connected to our SMS text messaging program. It applies specifically to text messaging. Our general website privacy policy covers everything else.

2. What we collect

When you opt in to receive text messages from HHF, we collect:

  • Your mobile phone number

  • A record of your consent, including the date, time, and the form or keyword you used to opt in

  • Your responses to our messages, including STOP, HELP, and any replies you send

  • Delivery and engagement data, such as whether a message was delivered and whether you clicked a link

If you provided your name, email address, or other details on the same form, we may associate those with your mobile number in our member records.

Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply.

3. How we use it

We use this information to:

  • Send you the messages described in our SMS Terms and Conditions

  • Honour your opt-out requests and maintain a suppression list so that you are not contacted again

  • Respond to your questions and provide support

  • Maintain records demonstrating that we obtained your consent, as carriers and regulators require

  • Understand which messages are useful so we can send fewer and better ones

4. We do not sell or share your mobile information

No mobile information will be sold, rented, or shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes.

Text messaging originator opt-in data and consent will not be shared with any third parties, and will not be sold, rented, or shared for any purpose.

This applies to all categories of third parties, including other nonprofits, coalition partners, advocacy organizations, political committees, and data brokers. If HHF works in coalition with other organizations, your mobile number and your consent to receive texts stay with HHF.

5. Service providers

We use technology vendors to operate the messaging program. These include our messaging platform provider (Twilio Inc.) and the software our developer builds on top of it. These vendors process your information only to deliver our messages on our behalf, under contract, and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes or to market to you.

Providing your number to a vendor so they can deliver our message to you is not the same as sharing it for marketing. We do not do the latter.

6. When we may disclose information

We may disclose information if we are legally required to, such as in response to a valid subpoena, court order, or law enforcement request, or where necessary to protect the rights or safety of any person. If this happens and we are permitted to tell you, we will.

7. How long we keep it

We keep your mobile number and consent record for as long as you remain opted in, and for a reasonable period afterwards to maintain our suppression list and to demonstrate compliance with carrier and legal requirements. If you opt out, we retain your number on a do-not-contact list so that we do not accidentally message you again. That is the only reason we keep it.

8. Your choices

  • Stop messages: Text STOP, UNSUBSCRIBE, or CANCEL to any message from us.

  • Get help: Text HELP, or contact us using the details below.

  • Access, correct, or delete your information: Contact us at info@hawaiisfuture.org and we will respond within a reasonable time. Note that if you ask us to delete your number entirely, we may be unable to keep you on our suppression list.

9. Security

We take reasonable steps to protect your information, including limiting internal access to staff who need it. No system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

10. How we obtain your consent

We only send text messages to people who have given express written consent to receive them. Consent is collected through a standalone, unchecked checkbox on HHF signup forms, event registrations, and petitions, or by texting a keyword to our number.

Consent to receive text messages is never required in order to donate to HHF, register for an HHF event, or participate in any HHF program. You can complete any of those without agreeing to receive texts.

11. Children

Our SMS program is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect mobile numbers from children under 13. If you believe we have, contact us and we will delete the information.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The current version will always be available at hawaiisfuture.org/sms-privacy, with the date of the most recent update at the top.

13. Contact
